anadian rock singer Avril Lavigne, 23, will perform in a concert at Tokyo Dome on Sept 16 together with Japanese artists Ai Otsuka, 25, and female duo Puffy.

Otsuka said, “It’s an honor for to be asked to take part in this concert. I would like to make it an event w

In Lavigne's official MySpace page, she affirms that her music genre is Pop/Punk/Rock;^[59] but All Music Guide and other reviewers consider her "Punk, Punk-pop, Pop/Rock, Alternative Rock, Alternative Pop-Rock, Modern Rock and Post-Grunge". The reason for the confusion appears to be for her punk-like appearance, however, she has frequently stated that she's "not punk", and that she never claimed to be.^[60] Lavigne said this despite her many claims to be a "skater punk" in her earlier years. Lavigne cites many early punk bands and figures as influences (most notably Sid Vicious), but her music has little in common with 1970s punk.

Personal life

In the January 2003 issue of Seventeen magazine, she admitted to "snagging a bite of Matt's cheeseburgers every now and again." Also in a recent interview, she said she prefers not to eat meat, but will not say she's a vegetarian "in case anyone caught her eating meat".^[61]

Lavigne has a star tattooed on the inside of her left wrist that matches the style of the one used for her first album artwork. It was created at the same time as friend and musical associate Ben Moody's identical tattoo. In late 2004, she had a small pink heart-shaped tattoo featuring the letter 'D' applied to her right wrist, which represents her now husband Deryck Whibley.^[62]

In February 2004, she began dating fellow Canadian singer Deryck Whibley, the lead singer/guitarist of punk band Sum 41. On June 27, 2005, Lavigne and Whibley became engaged.^[63] Whibley proposed to Lavigne by surprising her with a trip to Venice, a gondola ride, and then a romantic picnic.^[63]

The couple married in a Catholic ceremony attended by about 110 guests on July 15, 2006 at a private estate in Montecito, California.^[64] When asked if they were ready for kids the couple said "not right now but somewhere down the road."^[65]^[66]

Avril once said in an interview that her favorite party song is "Hey Ya", by Outkast. She likes listening to Third Eye Blind, Oasis, Marilyn Manson, System of a Down and Blink-182, and loves especially the track "I miss you". Asked what she would put on a mix tape to a boy she liked, Avril answered: "Iris, by Goo Goo Dolls. I'd put a few Coldplay and Oasis songs. Radiohead -- The Bends is one of my favorite albums."^[67]

Lavigne has been involved in a number of charities, such as Make Some Noise, Amnesty International, AmericanCPR.org, Camp Will-a-Way, Music Clearing Minefields, U.S. Campaign for Burma, Make-a-Wish Foundation and War Child. She has also appeared in ALDO ads with YouthAIDS to raise money to educate people worldwide about HIV/AIDS.

Lavigne worked with Reverb, a non-profit environmental organization, for her 2005 east coast tour.^[68]

Lavigne also covered 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' for War Child's Peace Songs compilation.^[69]

Concert Review: Boys Like Girls and Avril Lavigne

Thousands of teens gathered around the Agganis Arena in Boston on Tuesday April 1st, anxiously awaiting the performances of Boston-based pop-rockers Boys Like Girls, followed by the princess of punk herself, Avril Lavigne.

Boys Like Girls took the stage right on schedule at 7:00pm. It was obvious they were quite elated to be back in their hometown, judging by their repeated mention of it between songs. They opened the evening with their hit single, "Hero Heroine" and just as the crowd started pouring in, they followed up with an upbeat performance of "Five Minutes to Midnight". Lead singer Martin Johnson then took a short break stating that the band wanted to take a moment to introduce themselves, then proceeded to stand in the middle of the stage pointing upwards at the giant multi-colored banner in the background that displayed the words "Boys Like Girls", which sent the crown into a wild cheer.

Next came the performance of "Dance Hall Drug", which they ended with John Keefe's drum solo that sent the crowd into another frenzy. To keep the mood going, Johnson gushed about how great it was to be home, and then asked the crowd if they were excited to see Avril perform. After the screams settled down, Johnson demanded that since we were stuck with him for a little while longer, he wanted to see the crowd really moving. He revved up an electrifying rendition of "Heels Over Head" while jumping from side to side and waving his hands in the air, while the audience mimicked his every move.

After the rock ballad of "Broken Man" came to an end, Johnson stated, "This next song I wrote when I was eighteen, just up the street in a little town in Mass. while sitting on an apartment floor." He asked that everyone in the audience hold up their lighters and cell phones, and as the bands struck the first chords of "Thunder", the majority of the crowd honored his request.

Johnson once again reiterated his happiness to be back in Boston, stating that he had great friends and family who were attending the show. He announced that they would be back in Boston this summer headlining the Kiss Concert.

They ended the show with a stellar performance of their most popular hit song, "The Great Escape", which sent the crowd into such a dancing chaos that I actually felt the floor shaking beneath me. Johnson and guitarist Paul DiGiovanni ended the song while standing back to back, wailing out magnetic guitar riffs.

Avril Lavigne took the stage shortly after 8:00pm, making a rising entrance from the middle of the stage. Appearing every bit like the poster child for punk rock, Lavigne opened with her hit single, "Girlfriend", with her back up dancers in hot pursuit. The thing that's great about Avril is that she doesn't choreograph with her dancers, simply because she doesn't need them. Sure, there are parts when she does synchronized moves with them, but for the most part she just has fun bouncing around the stage doing her own thing.

After concluding a fun filled, bubbly performance of "I Can Do Better" off her new album, she introduced her next song saying, "This song and I go way back. It was my first single ever released." The song she's referring to is "Complicated", which provoked everyone in the audience to sway back and forth, singing along to every word at ease.

She switched to a fluorescent pink electric guitar with a matching pink microphone for her attitude driven version of "My Happy Ending", followed by the soft, mellow touch of "I'm With You". During this ballad, the backdrop changed to display videos of everyone in the audience. Judging from the reaction on the big screens, this was quite a hit. "I'm With You" received the most applause of the night.

One of the highlights of the evening was when Lavigne's backup dancers came barreling onto the stage, performing back flips among many other wild moves to Linkin Park's "Faint". The dancers pushed a bright neon pink grand piano to the center of the stage, where Lavigne performed "When You're Gone," with the music video displayed in the background.

"Innocence" really captured Lavigne's vocals beautifully, while "Don't Tell Me" showed a bit more of her style, as she strummed on her pink, leopard printed acoustic guitar. However, her hit song "Hot" was also performed acoustically, and quite frankly, it was the only song of the night that sounded a bit out of tune. Something about the sound of the entire song was a bit off, which was disappointing considering this is one of her newest popular hit songs. She also performed an acoustic version of "Losing Grip", which sounded terrific. She announced that "Losing Grip" was the first song she ever wrote when she was seventeen.

Another highlight of the evening was when Lavigne propped herself down in front of her drum set stating, "If I mess up, you can scream at me." She not only played the drums while singing "Run Away", but also followed up with an energetic cover of Toni Basil's "Hey Mickey", which sent the crowd into an absolute uproar. This proved that no matter how old you are, anyone and everyone knows the words to "Hey Mickey" (even a crowd that consists mainly of thirteen year old girls).

The show ended with the dancers once again showing off their outrageous moves to a brief version of "Girlfriend", followed by a remarkably energetic performance of the well-known hit single, "Sk8er Boi".

All in all, the energy level was at its absolute high throughout the entire evening. From the rocking riffs of Boys Like Girls to the rebellious renditions of Avril Lavigne, there was a rarely a dull moment. It was definitely an evening to remember.

Bintang pop rock asal Kanada, Avril Lavigne, sedang menghadapi tuntutan soal penjiplakan lagu. Ia mendapat tuduhan telah merubah versi dari lagu aslinya, tanpa seijin penciptanyam sebuah grup band Rubinoos.

Grup band di era 70-an telah menyatakan bahwa single Avril yang berjudul ‘Girlfriend’ merupakan sebuah tiruan dari lagu mereka pada tahun 1979, ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’.

Sedangkan juru bicara Avril, Terry McBride, membantah kabar miring tersebut. “Ini adal;ah sebuah lagu yang tak pernah ia dengar sebelumnya. Lagian, lagu itupun tak begitu tenar dan tercipta sebelum ia lahir,” ungkap McBride dalam wawancara dengan CanWesr News Service.

“Kabar tersebut sunggguh memojokkan dan tak punya bukti yang kuat,” tambahnya.

Pihak Avril pun tidak tinggal diam, segera setelah tuduhan itu dilemparkan ke publik, McBride mengaku menyewa seorang ahli musik. Hasilnya? Setelah membanding kedua lagu tersebut, sang pakar tersebut mengatakan bahwa kedua lagu itu benar-benar jauh berbeda.

Sementara itu, lagu Rubinoos yang berjudul ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’ itu memiliki chorus: ‘Hey hey you you, I wanna be your boyfriend’, sementara lirik lagu Avril berbunyi: ‘Hey hey you you, I want to be your girlfriend’.

Penyanyi Avril Lavigne rupanya tak peduli tentang pernikahan yang dapat mempengaruhi kehidupannya. Namun, menurut wanita cantik ini, pernikahan telah mengubah suaminya.
Dilansir dari People, Menurut Avril, Deryck Whibley sang suami yang juga pentolan grup musik Sum 41, pernikahan mampu mengubah pria tersebut.

Bersandar pada sebuah hubungan yang kuat, Avril mengaku bahwa dirinya tak merasa khawatir atau merasa takut dengan Whibley. Pria 27 tahun ini memang sedang sibuk berkeliaran saat ia turun ke jalan dalam tur-turnya.

Pasalnya,dalam waktu dekat ini dirinya akan menyanyikan lagu kedalam delapan bahasa negara yang berbeda

Lagu yang terpilih untuk dinyanyikan adalah singlenya yang berjudul 'girlfriend'. Hal itu dilakukan Avril, tak lain untuk memuaskan fansnya

Pelantun lagu skaterboy itu sendiri akan menggelar tur pertengahan tahun ini di beberapa negara di Eropa. Dia berjanji akan berkomunikasi dengan penggemarnya dengan menggunakan di luar bahasa Inggris.

The Journey:
Kehadiran Avril Lavigne di dunia musik di era 2000-an langsung membelokkan layar musik pop ke arah yang berbeda. Lagu debutnya "Complicated" ngehit abis di tahun 2002. Waktu itu umur Avril baru 17 dan cuek banget sama dunia gemerlap yang waktu itu nempel banget di penyanyi pop cewek lain macem Britney Spears, Christina atau lainnya. Kehadiran Avril jadi seperti gerakan anti ke-glamoran para musisi pop cewek era itu.

Anak kedua dari tiga bersaudara ini besar di Ontario, Canada. Bakat Avril emang udah keliatan banget dari kecil. Waktu baru menginjak dewasa dia udah sibuk bikin lagu sendiri dan mainin gitar. Untungnya bakatnya ini ga sia-sia dan terlacak oleh bos Arista Record. Dibawah pantauan Antonio "L.A.", Lavigne dikasi modal para penulis lagu dan produser handal untuk ngebuat lagunya. Tapi sepertinya ide-ide Avril ga keluar, dan gara-gara itu juga Avril hengkang ke Los Angeles. Di sana producer/songwriter Clif Magness (yang ngerjain albumnya Celine Dion dan Wilson Phillips) memoles gaya melodi, dan sound dari lagu-lagunya dan hasilnya bisa didengerin sendiri di album Let Go.

Polesan yang dilakukan Clif membuahkan hasil, single-single Avril macam "Complicated" dan "Sk8er Boi" masuk dalam jajarani nomer satu. Bakatnya yang luar biasa dan rasa percaya diri yang tinggi membuat Avril dijuluki oleh banyak media sebagai "The New Alanis Morissette". Untuk album keduanya, Avril dibantu sama Butch Walker (Marvelous 3), pentolan Our Lady Peace, Raine Maida dan Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Good Charlotte). Album Under My Skinpun akhirnya dirilis Mei 2004.

Memasuki tahun baru, Avril Lavigne berniat menghelat konser dunia. Jadwalnya akan dimulai pada Maret 2008.

Penyanyi berusia 23 tahun itu memulai konser tur dunia pada 5 Maret 2008 di Save on Foods Memorial Centre di Victoria, Inggris. Avril akan membawakan sejumlah lagunya yang menjadi hits.

Bagi kebanyakan mantan bintang pop remaja, album ketiga bisa berarti satu hal: waktunya untuk jadi dewasa dengan mengubah dandanan atau menyanyikan lagu-lagu berbau balada. Namun tidak bagi Avril Lavigne. Sewaktu kondang sebagai penyanyi remaja, Avril dikenal dengan lagu-lagunya yang diwarnai kemarahan dan pemberontakan. Dan sekarang, sebagai wanita menikah berusia 22 tahun, ia masih membiarkan jiwa remajanya mencuat keluar lewat album barunya THE BEST DAMN THING.

Avril masih mengembangkan jiwa pemberontaknya dalam tembang bertajuk Girlfriend. Memang ada sedikit unsur dewasa dalam album ketiga ini jika dibanding dengan Let Go, mungkin karena di album ini Avril membiarkan dirinya bertindak lebih liar dari pada agresif seorang remaja.

Keriangan banyak tersirat dalam syair yang digubahnya, walau mungkin sedikit dibatasi dalam kadar tertentu. Dalam tembang I Don't Have to Try ia mencoba mengungkapkan betapa dialah hal yang paling nakal yang pernah siapapun kenal.

Tembang lain seperti Everything Back But You dan I Can Do Better menunjukan betapa tingkah nakalnya tak dapat dicegah, tapi ini cukup menyenangkan untuk didengar, lebih segar dan meriah lebih dari hit luar biasanya, Let Go. THE BEST DAMN THING memang terdangar kontras, nakal dan berirama pop catchy yang menggelikan.
